Sleepwalker is the fifteenth studio album by the English rock group, The Kinks, released in 1977. It marked a return to straight-ahead, self-contained rock songs after several years of concept albums. It is the first album in what critics usually call the "arena rock" phase of the group, in which more commercial and mainstream production techniques would be employed. The album also marks the last appearance of bassist John Dalton, who left the band during the recording sessions
Arista had made it clear they would not accept any concept albums from the Kinks, and Sleepwalker, their first effort for the label, makes good on the band's promise. Comprised entirely of glossy arena rockers and power ballads, the album is more of a stylistic exercise than a collection of first-rate songs. Ray Davies contributed a handful of fairly strong songs, highlighted by the exceptional "Juke Box Music," which sees him in a shockingly resigned frame of mind, claiming that rock & roll is just rock & roll, and nothing more
Sleepwalker" was released as the first single from album of the same name. It charted in the American Hot 100 (peaking at the first single from The Kinks to do so since "Apeman". It also hit in Canada. NME stated, "Set to a backdrop highly reminiscent of the hallowed -down riffing of Phase 1 Kinks. the main squeeze is that The Kinks are making good records again. Melody Maker's opinion of the song was mixed, stating "Kinks fans/lovers of 'Waterloo Sunset' won't find 'Sleepwalker'.

Sleepwalker Tracklist. 1. Life On the Road Lyrics. Before the album’s release, The Kinks switched from RCA to Arista records. The company forbid them from releasing a concept album, forcing Ray Davies to write an album of straight-forward rock songs. Davies also opened the band’s new studio, Konk studios, which is responsible for the more modern development on the album. During the making of the album, bassist, John Dalton, who had joined the band in 1969, left the band was replaced by Andy Pyle. The album was well-received by critics, much better received than their other post-Muswell Hillbillies albums.
Sleepwalker " is a 1977 album by the English rock group, The Kinks. Whilst there is something of a somnambulant theme to the album, this first album on the Arista label broadly ditched the theatrical and occasionally impenetrable concept album style the group had been mining with diminishing returns since 1968. A modern, confident series of melodic tracks was described in the American music press as " a phoenix rising from the ashes ".
